If you're a PlayStation 3 owner, I have some bad news: Your console system is no longer the platform of choice for videogame pinball. In terms of smart new tables created for virtual pinballing, the PlayStation 3 exclusive Zen Pinball was as good as it got. Now it's been unseated. The developers at Zen Studios have returned to their roots on the Xbox 360, where their aging Pinball FX has been languishing with lo-res graphics, last gen physics, and tables that paled in comparison to latest Zen Pinball offerings. Say hello to Pinball FX 2 on Xbox Live Arcade. It includes four new tables and free backwards compatibility for all the tables in Zen Pinball 1. The end result is 12 tables for the Xbox 360, which is now the system of choice for pinball wizardry.

The four new tables are imaginative and distinct, tying their unique themes into cool gameplay concepts. Biolab is an oddly cheerful table about creating a monster. Well, it's not really a monster. It's like something from Spore, or maybe even a Pokemon. You assemble it from different parts and make it smarter, faster, and stronger, until it eventually acquires the power to steal cookies. Cute stuff, with an actual monster in a vat at the head of the table.
