Using electronics while crossing the road could get you fined in New York

Pedestrian crossing the road The next time you cross the streets of New York, think twice before taking out that phone to make a phone call. According to recent bill passed to the transportation committee, the streets of New York should be a safer place for both pedestrians and people in vehicles. The proposed law basically bans all pedestrians from using any electronic devices while crossing the streets. One of the main causes of roadside accidents have been due to distracted/unaware pedestrians walking into the path of an oncoming vehicle, and these pedestrians are usually those who have had headphones on or were busy texting while crossing the street.

If put into effect, the proposed law will help to ensure that people who cross roads aren't distracted by their gadgets and are focused on their surroundings. While this won't help people who don't pay attention regardless of whether they are fidgeting with an electronic device or not, it should cut down the accident rates for those people who do. I think it sounds like a very helpful law that should be implemented everywhere and not just in New York, what do you think?
