Free Wi-Fi – now that is something which many of us take for granted, but don't you just hate it when you go to a public place and realize that all the wireless networks in the vicinity are password protected? Those living in the UK will be pleased to know that this situation might be a thing of the past, as the good people over at O2 have plans to create a Wi-Fi platform in the UK which boasts free access for everyone, regardless of whether you're an O2 customer or not.

This will happen when 2013 rolls around, and O2 predicts that it will offer double the Wi-Fi coverage compared to currently offered premium hotspots by BT OpenZone and The Cloud combined. The new Wi-Fi system roll out starts today, where O2 will first replace the 450 existing Cloud hotspots in O2′s retail and office operations. It will soon expand across various venues in the UK, where among them include retail outlets, shops, restaurants, as well as a bunch of indoor and outdoor locations across the country. With such news, any phone without Wi-Fi connectivity in the future will definitely not be worth its salt.
