It's only been on the market for five days in Japan but 2 million copies of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd have already been shipped to stores, according to an official annoucement from Capcom today. The company is describing this as "record-breaking" for the Monster Hunter series which has sold, to date, 15 million copies in total.

How many of these 2 million copies have actually been purchased was not mentioned in today's announcement, but such figures should become public in the weekly Media Create sales report on Thursday. Recent Japanese blog activity has documented major stores selling out around the country and posted pictures that show longer lines for Monster Hunter than for Pokemon Black & White. Since that game sold 2.6 million copies in just two days, 2 million copies of Monster Hunter sold in five days seems very plausible.
