Sadly the one just dropped off isn't fully loaded with all the available gizmos. Our 2011 tester came sans night vision and the rear executive package, but that's fine. It's still one of the most technically advanced saloons on Earth. Yeah, I'm in love with its body and soul.
It only took a few quick minutes in the A8 to discover that while the in-vehicle systems aren't nearly as flashy or robust as Ford's MyFord Touch, they're superior on many levels. It's almost an exercise in form over function. The MyFord Touch is a fully-decked infotainment suite complete with Bluetooth PAN network sharing, apps and enough screens to scroll through to cause an accident.
The Audi A8 doesn't have any of that nonsense, instead there's a smooth-as-fake-butter system that's intuitive and and well-rounded. In many ways the two are like the launch version of iOS and Android. iPhone OS as it was called back then didn't launch with the huge feature set as Android, but the functions it did have, worked well, which Android could not tout until just recently. That's what we have here. But more on that later this week with a complete video overview. Really, you must see this in action. There's nothing else like it. Well, okay, it's an evolution of other VW systems, but it's a significant jump forwards.
